Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani ended as runner-up in Men’s Doubles in the Badminton Asia Championships 2024 in Ningbo, China.

This was after the pair were forced to agree that they died at the hands of the world number three team from China, Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang in the final of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China, recently.

In the action at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center, both pairs showed fierce action from the start of the game by chasing each other’s points before winning in favor of Wei Keng-Wang Chang 21-17.

However, Izzuddin-Sze Fei, who is ranked 19th in the world, managed to silence the home fans for a moment with their comeback in the second set to win 21-15 and drag the match to the decider.

Izzuddin-Sze Fei started well at the start of the set when leading 5-1, but it didn’t last long when they were seen losing focus as they saw their opponents manage to recover by winning eight points in a row before concluding the win with a 21-10 decision.

The defeat saw Malaysia’s drought to emerge as Asian men’s team champions continue after last winning with the Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah pairing in 2007 when they retained the championship won the year before.

This is also the third time in a row that the country’s men’s team representatives have lost on the final stage, after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the 2022 edition and Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin last year.

Although forced to accept the title of runner-up, it is considered the highest achievement in Izzuddin-Sze Fei’s career, considering the level of the tournament, which equals Super 1000.
