Bangkok United have officially ascended to new continental heights after weathering a furious second-half storm from Macarthur FC to grind out a thrilling 2-2 draw inthe AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Sydney.
The A-League side had hopes of mounting a quick comeback, but Mohsen Al Ghassani extinguished them within 120 seconds. The Omani international silenced the Campbelltown crowd with a devastating solo run and finish right out of the gate.
But he wasn’t done. In the 33rd minute, following a filthy nutmeg assist from midfield maestro Picha Autra, Al Ghassani took a single touch and curled a “Goal of the Tournament” contender into the back of the net to effectively kill off the tie.
Despite taking a 2-0 lead, BUFC had to dig deep. A heavily deflected strike from Walter Scott gave the Aussies life just before halftime. The second half became the “Patiwat Khammai Show.”
Thailand’s #1 shot-stopper put on a heroic display, producing acrobatic saves to deny Chris Ikonomidis, Anthony Caceres, and Dean Bosnjak. Even when Patiwat was beaten by Callum Talbot’s deflected effort, the goalpost came to BUFC’s rescue. While Harrison Sawyer managed a stoppage-time header to level the match at 2-2, the aggregate damage had long been done.
Bangkok United advancing to the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 Quarter-Finals for the first time in the club’s history, with a commanding 4-2 aggregate victory.
With Macarthur in the rearview mirror, Bangkok United is now preparing for a massive regional derby against Singapore’s Tampines Rovers FC in the Quarter-Finals on 5 and 12 March.
