Unifi Liga Super Malaysia 2026/27 fixture between Negeri Sembilan FC and Kuala Lumpur City FC has been called off after Kuala Lumpur City reported a major influenza outbreak within their squad.
The LS1 match was scheduled to take place at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi, at 5:00 PM, but the Malaysian Football League (MFL) decided the fixture could not proceed after receiving a formal request from KL City.
The decision was made with the health and welfare of players and team officials taking priority.
According to the medical report submitted to MFL by Kuala Lumpur City, 15 players and two team officials have developed symptoms including fever, coughing, flu-like symptoms and diarrhoea.
With almost half of the squad affected, the club informed MFL that the illness was highly contagious and required adequate time for recovery.
The affected players and officials are also set to be referred to the Petaling District Health Office (PKD Petaling) for further medical attention and treatment.
After assessing KL City’s request and the medical circumstances surrounding the outbreak, MFL confirmed that the match could not be played as scheduled.
The league’s priority was to prevent further transmission while protecting the health of both teams and their respective officials.
MFL also acknowledged that allowing the fixture to proceed under the circumstances could create further health risks for players, staff and others involved in the match.
While the postponement has been confirmed, the final status of the fixture has not yet been determined.
MFL will refer the matter to its Board of Directors, which will make a decision on the status of the match in the coming days.
