Lion City Sailors have announced the departure of Head Coach Aleksandar Ranković with immediate effect. The decision marks the end of one of the most decorated tenures in the club’s history, leaving the reigning champions in search of a new navigator mid-season.
Ranković leaves the Bishan-based outfit as a serial winner. In over 100 matches at the helm, the Serbian tactician transformed the Sailors into an unstoppable domestic force, securing five major trophies. His trophy cabinet at the club includes the Singapore Premier League Title 2024/25, Singapore Cup Three consecutive titles, and Community Shield One title
His individual brilliance was also recognized last season when he was crowned the SPL Coach of the Year after leading the Sailors to a historic league and cup double.
Beyond the domestic borders, “Ranko” will be remembered for putting Singaporean football back on the continental map. He guided the Sailors to a historic breakthrough in the AFC Champions League Two last season, becoming the first-ever Singaporean side to reach the final of a major Asian club competition—a feat that elevated the club’s reputation to new heights.
The club has confirmed that Assistant Coach Varo Moreno will step up as interim head coach. His first test comes immediately this Sunday (8 February) in an SPL clash against the Young Lions.
