Malaysia’s women’s doubles campaign at the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2026 suffered a setback after second seeds Pearly Tan–M. Thinaah were knocked out in the Round of 16, going down to Indonesia’s Febriana Kusuma–Meilysa Trias Puspitasari in a hard-fought straight-games encounter today.
Despite pushing their opponents to the limit, Pearly–Thinaah fell 24-26, 17-21 in a match that tested both pairs physically and mentally at the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 event.
The opening game was a thriller, with both sides trading leads and saving multiple game points. Pearly and Thinaah showed their fighting spirit to claw back repeatedly, but the Indonesian duo held their nerve in the closing stages to snatch the game 26-24.
Carrying that momentum into the second game, Kusuma–Puspitasari maintained their aggression and court control, while the Malaysian pair struggled to regain the initiative. Although Pearly–Thinaah attempted to mount a late comeback, the Indonesians stayed composed to close out the match 21-17.
The defeat brings an early end to Pearly–Thinaah’s title hopes on home soil, marking a disappointing exit for one of Malaysia’s strongest medal prospects in the women’s doubles category. Attention will now turn to regrouping and preparing for upcoming international assignments as they look to rediscover their best form against the world’s elite.
