Datuk Ong Kim Swee, the former manager of Sabah FC, has been unveiled as the new head coach of Persis Solo, a club in Liga 1 Indonesia as announced on the team’s official Facebook page earlier today.
This appointment ends speculation surrounding Kim Swee’s next move. Earlier rumors linked him to the new coaching setup for Malaysia’s national team.
Kim Swee joins Persis Solo at a critical juncture, as the team sits third from the bottom of the Liga 1 standings with just seven points from 11 matches. His arrival is expected to bring much-needed expertise and stability to the struggling club.
The announcement comes shortly after Kim Swee confirmed his departure from Sabah FC last Thursday, following the conclusion of his contract on November 30.
During his tenure with the Sang Badak, which began in September 2021, Kim Swee achieved impressive milestones by securing top-three finishes in the Malaysian Super League for two consecutive seasons and leading Sabah FC to the semi-finals of the AFC Cup ASEAN Zone 2023/24.
His strategic acumen and ability to elevate team performance have made him one of the region’s most respected football managers.
