The stage is set for a historic showcase of Malaysian golfing talent as five homegrown stars prepare to challenge the world’s best at the Maybank Championship 2025, scheduled for this October at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).
With the tournament carrying a record USD 3 million purse, making it the richest women’s golf event in the region, the Malaysian contingent – Mirabel Ting, Ashley Lau, Kelly Tan, Liyana Durisic, and Genevieve Ling – will not only compete for glory but also carry the pride of the nation as Malaysia celebrates Malaysia Day on 16 September.
Spotlight on Rising Star Mirabel Ting
All eyes will be on Mirabel Ting, the newly turned professional whose meteoric rise has captivated the global golf community. Ting stunned the field in last year’s Maybank Championship, finishing T12 as an amateur, and has since made history by becoming:
- World Amateur No. 2 before turning pro in July.
- The first Malaysian to top the U.S. NCAA Division One rankings.
- The first Asia-Pacific player to win the prestigious Annika Award.
Now in the paid ranks, Ting is determined to build on her momentum on home soil.
Experienced Leaders Back in Action
Joining her is Ashley Lau, Malaysia’s current No. 1 golfer and a 2024 Olympian, who delivered a T22 finish in last year’s event. With recent strong results on both the Epson Tour and Asian circuits, Lau is eager to thrill home fans once again.
Kelly Tan, a two-time Olympian and national icon, brings invaluable experience to the line-up. A Maybank ambassador, Tan first earned her LPGA Tour card in 2014 and has notched runner-up finishes at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in 2022 and 2023.
Emerging Talent with Big Ambitions
Liyana Durisic, who broke through at the Maybank Championship ASEAN Qualifier last year, returns to KLGCC after an impressive season. She leads the PGM Tour Ladies’ Order of Merit with two wins and sits 7th on the WPGA Tour of Australasia rankings with four top-10 finishes.
Meanwhile, Genevieve Ling comes into the Championship on the back of strong form, highlighted by a T2 finish at the WPG Ladies Open in Chinese Taipei. With growing international exposure, Ling is poised to deliver on the big stage.
Maybank’s Commitment to Women’s Golf
This year’s Championship further cements Maybank’s commitment to growing women’s golf in ASEAN. Beyond providing a platform to shine, the bank has introduced a unique incentive – the highest-finishing Malaysian invitee will earn a place in a 2026 Epson Tour event, offering a direct pathway to the LPGA Tour.
Fans can be part of the action at KLGCC with attractive entry packages: and can purchase on Ticket2U
