Two of Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pairs, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, are still on to the Quarter-Final in the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2024 at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur.
Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik confirmed their ticket to the quarter-finals after easily overcoming teammates Nur Izzuddin Rumsani-Goh Sze Fei 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) in the second round in 36 minutes.
Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi faced Kim Astrup-Anders Rasmussen from Denmark and started well when they won the first set 21-10, but their opponents managed to bounce back to record a 21-11 victory in the second set, thus dragging the action to the deciding set.
The action of the deciding set was intense when both pairs chased each other, especially during the last point before Ee Yi-Yew Sin confirmed the victory with a result of 24-22 in 61 minutes.
“We didn’t think about the points first. When we were leading 20-18, we did think we could win but then made some simple mistakes. After this we don’t want to repeat those mistakes.” Yew Sin said.
