Malaysian Men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik concluded as runner-up of Group A after losing to world No.1 pair Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang from China in the Men’s doubles event of badminton at the Olympics 2024 held at Porte de La Chapelle Arena, Paris.
Aaron and Wooi Yik, who won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, fought hard but ultimately lost 22-24, 14-21 in a 42-minute match. Despite a strong effort, the reigning Asian champions, Weikeng and Chang, extended their winning record to seven out of nine meetings against the Malaysian pair.
After the match, Aaron reflected on their performance, stating, “We enjoyed the game without pressure and treated it as a practice match because we still have a few games left. Of course, we hope to get a different color medal after winning bronze at Tokyo 2020, but we seem to be taking it step by step.”
Wooi Yik acknowledged the challenge of facing top-seeded opponents and emphasized the importance of improving their weaknesses ahead of the knockout stages starting on Thursday.
The draw for the quarter-finals will be conducted after the completion of the men’s team group stage matches tomorrow.
