Malaysia has officially locked in the dates for the 34th SEA Games, confirming that the regional multi-sport showpiece will run from 18-29 September 2027 across four hosting clusters: Sarawak, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
The announcement was made by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh after chairing the Second Meeting of the 34th SEA Games & 14th ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee.
Yeoh explained that the 18–29 September window was chosen for several key reasons:
- University break begins on 18 September
- Before the monsoon season, ensuring more stable weather for outdoor events
- After major national dates — Merdeka (Aug 31) and Malaysia Day (Sept 16)
- Avoids clashes with other major domestic or international events
“The announcement of the dates and the initial list of 38 sports was finalised during the committee meeting today,” Yeoh said.
For the first time in SEA Games history, Malaysia will distribute events across four major clusters, leveraging existing facilities while spreading economic and tourism benefits.
