Selangor FC clicnh quota for joining in AFC Champions League 2 in next season after beating Kedah Darul Aman scoring 1-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2023 at Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.
In a fierce action in front of almost 21,000 spectators, Kedah started a dangerous attack on the Selangor goal in the eighth minute through a J Partiban move that sent into the danger area but failed to be completed by Ifedayo Olusegun.
It was followed by Manuel Ott’s attempt which was saved by Selangor goalkeeper Sam Somerville.
Selangor tried to rise through Yohandry Orozco’s shot in the 15th minute which was deflected out by Kedah goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz.
Ifedayo once again had the best chance in the 30th minute as a result of an attempt in front of the goal but the Selangor defender, Safuwan Baharudin was faster and managed to block it.
Entering the second half, Selangor made a change by bringing in Brendan Gan and removing Mukhairi Ajmal to strengthen the attack machinery.
Selangor, who continued to press the Kedah goal, finally managed to break the deadlock when their striker, Aaron Del Valle managed to push the ball in from Brendan Gan’s pass in the 64th minute, thus cheering up the visiting fans.
Kedah tried to rise through Manuel Hidalgo’s attempt in the 79th minute after receiving a pass from substitute Fayadh Zulkifli, but the attempt was successfully saved by Somerville.
At the end of the second half, Kedah’s defender, Wan Amirul Afiq, almost scored a goal for Selangor, but his attempt went astray, thus disappointing. And remained score 1-0 until the end.
