Thailand’s national team has received a major boost ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, as former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jude Soonsup-Bell has officially decided to represent Thailand at the international level.
The announcement was made by Football Association of Thailand (FAT) President Nualphan Lamsam, who shared the exciting development through her official Facebook post on Monday.
“Jude Soonsup-Bell, an England-Thai forward currently playing for League Two club Grimsby Town, has officially decided to represent the Thailand national team,” wrote Nualphan.
“This decision follows discussions that began last year between myself and Jude. The documentation process has already started.
“National team coach Anthony Hudson has also agreed and personally nominated him as one of the potential call-ups for Thailand’s upcoming national team camp.”
Born in England to a Thai mother and English father, Soonsup-Bell began his career in Chelsea’s youth system before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. Known for his technical ability and intelligent movement in the box, the 20-year-old striker made waves in youth competitions before signing with Grimsby Town in England’s League Two earlier this year.
Since joining The Mariners, he has made eight appearances and contributed one assist, showcasing glimpses of the potential that made him one of England’s most promising dual-national prospects.
If the paperwork and eligibility process proceed smoothly, Soonsup-Bell is expected to make his debut for Thailand in the international friendly against Singapore on 13 November, ahead of a crucial 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers match against Sri Lanka on 18 November.
His arrival comes at a pivotal time for Anthony Hudson’s Thailand squad, which is looking to strengthen its attacking options following recent inconsistencies in front of goal.
Jude Soonsup-Bell’s commitment represents another success in FAT’s ongoing efforts to attract heritage players with Thai roots competing abroad — a vision spearheaded by President Nualphan Lamsam to expand Thailand’s talent pool and elevate its international competitiveness.
“This is a positive step for the future of Thai football,” said Nualphan. “We are proud that players of Thai descent continue to embrace their heritage and choose to represent the War Elephants on the international stage.”
