BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP has completed its 2027 rider line-up after officially confirming 2020 MotoGP World Champion Joan Mir will join the Italian squad alongside rookie Daniel Holgado for MotoGP’s new technical era.
The announcement comes just hours after Gresini revealed Holgado’s promotion from Moto2, with Mir now confirmed to leave Honda HRC Castrol at the conclusion of the 2026 season to begin a new chapter aboard Ducati machinery.
The team also announced a new multi-year agreement with Ducati Corse, ensuring Gresini will continue racing the Bologna manufacturer’s Desmosedici into MotoGP’s next generation beginning in 2027.
Mir arrives at Gresini after four challenging seasons with Honda, where he collected two podium finishes despite the Japanese manufacturer’s struggles in recent years.
The 28-year-old remains one of the most accomplished riders on the grid, having captured the 2020 MotoGP World Championship before finishing third in the standings the following season.
Across his premier-class career, Mir has accumulated 15 MotoGP podiums, and his experience will be expected to play a crucial role in leading Gresini’s ambitions under the new regulations.
Adding further significance to the move, Gresini confirmed Mir will race a factory-spec Ducati Desmosedici in 2027—the same specification that will be used by the Ducati Lenovo Team.
Gresini Racing Team Owner Nadia Padovani believes the team’s new pairing perfectly reflects its long-term philosophy.
“From next year a lot will change, but the essence of the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team will remain the same.
“We continue to be a team that works to grow season after season, and in 2027 we will do so with two riders in whom we place great trust and whom we are ready to support fully.
“Dani is a profile we have been following for a long time and we are pleased that he can begin his rookie experience with us.
“Joan is a MotoGP World Champion. His record speaks for itself. One is at the beginning of his journey, while the other aims to rediscover his best sensations and maximise his potential.”
Padovani also confirmed Gresini’s continued partnership with Ducati while paying tribute to outgoing riders Alex Márquez and Fermín Aldeguer for their contributions to the team.
Ducati Corse General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna welcomed the continuation of the long-standing collaboration between the manufacturer and Gresini Racing.
“We are pleased to confirm the continuation of the multi-year collaboration between Ducati Corse and the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team.
“This relationship has been built over time on shared values, technical expertise, and a common determination to pursue ambitious goals on track.
“BK8 Gresini Racing represents a key partner within our project, and we will continue working side by side with continuity as we aim to further our shared growth.”
With MotoGP preparing to introduce sweeping technical changes in 2027, BK8 Gresini Racing has assembled a line-up capable of competing immediately while also investing in the future.
Mir brings championship-winning experience and a proven ability to fight at the highest level, while Holgado arrives as one of Spain’s most exciting young prospects.
Combined with factory-spec Ducati machinery and an extended partnership with Ducati Corse, Gresini has positioned itself as one of the teams to watch as MotoGP enters a new era in 2027.
