Malaysia hockey national team, keep victory in first match after beating Chile hockey national team, scoring 7-1 in the FIH Junior World Cup 2023 at Hockey national stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
Harris Iskandar Osman cheered about 3,000 spectators present when he opened the scoring in the 13th minute through a move from a penalty corner before Muhammad Danish Aiman Khairil Anuar blasted a field goal in the 23rd minute.
Amin Rahim had several chances to score in the first half but failed to find the finisher and the score remained 2-0 until the end of the first half.
Continuing the second half, the national squad was shocked for a moment when they were surprised by a goal from the opposing team through a penalty corner kick completed by Sebastian Wolansky in the 34th minute.
However, Amin’s men returned to ‘terror’ after that when they scored two goals through a penalty corner, each completed by Andywalfian Jeffrynus in the 36th minute, followed by Azmilmuizzuddin Misron (39) before Mohamad Shamir Rizmi Shamsul scored the fifth goal in the 41st minute.
National striker Shamie Irfan Suhaimi closed Malaysia’s glorious night in style when he scored two goals for the team through a penalty corner in the 47th minute and a stroke penalty eight minutes later.
The victory saw the Young Tigers squad get the best tonic ahead of their second match against defending champions, Argentina, tomorrow night.
