Malaysia Hockey National team lost 2 matches consecutives after losing to India Hockey National team scoring 1-8 in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2024 round-robin matchday 3 at Moqi Training Centre, Hulunbair.
This loss came on the heels of a 2-4 defeat to China, marking two consecutive setbacks for the Speedy Tigers.
Malaysia remains winless after three matches, having drawn 2-2 with Pakistan in the opening game. The team, under coach Sarjit Singh, now finds itself at the bottom of the standings, dimming hopes of securing a podium finish in the six-team league.
India dominated the match early, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes. Raj Kumar Pal opened the scoring with two field goals, followed by Jugraj Singh’s penalty corner.
Hermanpreet Singh further extended India’s lead with another penalty corner conversion in the eighth minute. Pal added two more goals, while Araijeet Singh Hundal and Uttam Singh rounded out India’s relentless attack.
Malaysia’s only consolation came from Akhimullah Anuar Esook, who scored a field goal in the 34th minute.
Despite the effort, Malaysia now faces a must-win situation in their final two first-round matches against Japan and South Korea to have any chance of advancing to the semi-finals.
