Malaysia Hockey national team down to plat in 5th place match after tied with Korea Republic Hockey national team scoring 3-3 in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2024 ROund-Robin matchday 5 at Moqi Training Centre, Hulunbair.
Despite putting up a strong performance, Malaysia’s chances to advance to the semi-finals were dashed following China’s 2-0 victory over Japan, which confirmed Malaysia’s elimination from the knockout stages.
Malaysia, under coach Sarjit Singh, had hoped Japan could at least secure a draw or win against China to keep their hopes alive. Unfortunately, the combination of the draw with South Korea and China’s victory sealed their fate.
Sarjit expressed disappointment over a last-minute penalty corner that allowed South Korea to equalize, denying Malaysia a crucial win.
South Korea’s draw with Malaysia also ensured their place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
