Malaysia Hockey National team failed to get the points after losing to China Hockey National team, the host in this time scoring 2-4 in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2024 round-robin matchday 2 at Moqi Training Centre, Hulunbair.
China took an early lead with Gao Jiesheng scoring from a penalty corner in the 9th minute. However, the Speedy Tigers equalized with a field goal by Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal in the 14th minute. Jiesheng struck again in the 32nd minute, converting another penalty corner to put China ahead 2-1.
China extended their lead with a field goal by Lin Changliang in the 40th minute. Although Malaysia closed the gap with a penalty corner goal by Faizal Saari in the 50th minute, China sealed the victory with a penalty stroke scored by Chao Jieming in the 56th minute, ending the match at 4-2.
This loss means Malaysia, under the guidance of coach Sarjit Singh, now faces a crucial task of winning their remaining three matches in the round-robin league to secure a spot in the top four and advance to the semi-finals. Their upcoming matches include tough encounters against India on Wednesday, Japan on Thursday, and South Korea on Saturday.
