Denmark Open 2026: Pearly-Thinaah Win Title, End 18-year Drought
Malaysian pair beat Japan’s world No. 21 duo 21-18, 21-11 to end 18-year wait for a women’s doubles champion
Malaysia’s Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah won the Denmark Open 2026 women’s doubles title on Sunday, beating Japan’s Hinata Suzuki-Nao Yamakita 21-18, 21-11 in the final at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense.
It is the pair’s second title of the year, after the Indonesia Masters earlier this season. It is also the first Denmark Open title for a Malaysian women’s pair since Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty won in 2008.
The world No. 5 pair, second seeds coached by Rosman Razak, made a poor start, trailing 3-8 early in the first game. They tightened up and won seven straight points to lead 10-8. The world No. 21 Japanese pair pushed them hard, but Pearly-Thinaah handled the pressure well and took the opening game 21-18.
The second game was easier. Pearly-Thinaah controlled the match and won 21-11 to secure the title at the Super 750 tournament.
The win earned Pearly-Thinaah prize money of USD 66,500(RM271,532.80).
It was a big turnaround from last year, when they were stunned in the second round in Odense by Japan’s Arisa Igarashi-Chiharu Shida.
This week they beat Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting-Yeung Pui Lam in the round of 16, and India’s Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand in the quarter-finals. They then beat China’s Bao Li Jing-Cao Zi Han in the semi-finals.
