Borussia Dortmund, a club in Germany’s top league, Bundesliga promise that Singapore football fans will have opportunities with their players when they are here for an exhibition match with Lion City Sailors, a big club in Singapore Premier League (SPL) on 24 November at Jalan Besar Stadium.
Today, at the Press conference room at Lion City Sailors training center, The two sides announced details of the game.
“We won’t separate ourselves,” said Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer.
“We will offer public training sessions, and when the supporters are interested to meet and greet the players at the hotel or somewhere else, it is not only allowed, we wish it.”
“Because if the people don’t get the feeling for the players and for the club, how will they become supporters of the club? This closeness, the opportunity to touch and feel the club, is very important.”
While the Dortmund squad will likely be missing stars like German internationals Niklas Sule and Julian Brandt, as well as England’s Jude Bellingham all set to feature at the 20 November – 18 December during 2022 World Cup at Qatar
Fans here might still be able to get up close and personal with the likes of up-and-coming players like Turkish midfielder Salih Ozcan and Youssoufa Moukoko, a young talent player.
This aim to bring fans closer, explained Sailors chief executive officer Chew Chun-Liang, is part of the reason for the choice of venue, as well as the affordable ticket pricing.
Tickets for the game are priced from SGD25(RM80.71) for adults and SGD13(RM41.97) for youth and senior citizens. Sailors’ current SPL tickets cost SGD15(RM48.43) and SGD5(RM16.14) for adults, and for youth and senior citizens, respectively.
Last month, Borussia Dortmund announced they would use the mid-season World Cup break to travel to Southeast Asia from 21 November to 1 December to play with local sides in Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
