Malaysia Futsal national team, still mo points in this tournament after losing to Vietnam, host with a score of 1-7 in the Men’s futsal at the 2021 SEA Games at the Ha Nam Gymnasium, Ha Nam.
Vietnam, who had the great support of their own supporters, however, was shocked in the second minute after Ekmal Shahrin’s left foot explosion could not be saved by goalkeeper Ho Van Y to put Malaysia ahead.
However, the advantage of the national squad was only able to last for a few seconds due to the equalizer produced by Nguyen Minh Tri who did a beautiful ‘turning’ and then followed by a solid shot to score the national goal.
The goal clearly boosted the morale of the Vietnamese players to terrorize with the addition of four more goals in the first half through two goals from Nguyen Thinh Phat as well as Le Quoc Nam and Nguyen Manh Dung each with one goal.
Just like the second half when they met Thailand, the national line -up came out more disciplined to improve the action to close the goal gap. However, the efforts of Khairul Effendy Bahrin and his teammates were unable to change the position.
In fact, the national squad had to play with four players following a red card given to the substitute goalkeeper, Azrul Hadee Mohd Taufiq who touched the ball outside the penalty area.
The advantage of one player was fully used by the hosts to add a sixth goal through Thinh Phat to complete his hat -trick in this match.
The forgetfulness when doing the ‘powerplay’ tactic also ate away at the national squad when a long pass from Van Y continued to look for Minh Tri who headed in the ball to make the score 7-1.
With the result, Malaysia is now without any points and must record victories over Indonesia and Myanmar to liven up their chances of getting at least a bronze medal.
