MotoGP Group has strengthened its leadership structure with the appointment of Carlos Ezpeleta as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, working alongside long-serving CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta as the championship prepares for its next phase of global growth and transformation.
The appointment recognises Carlos Ezpeleta’s major contribution to MotoGP over more than a decade and places him in an expanded leadership role as the sport continues to build its commercial, international and sporting future.
Carlos has been closely involved in MotoGP’s development for more than ten years, contributing to the championship’s expansion into new international markets while helping strengthen strategic partnerships and its commercial offering.
His experience also extends beyond the business side of the sport.
MotoGP Group highlighted his role in helping make the championship safer, more competitive and more entertaining, while contributing to the continued growth of its worldwide fanbase.
Now, Carlos will work alongside his father, Carmelo Ezpeleta, as the organisation prepares for what MotoGP describes as its next chapter.
“Carlos has played a fundamental role in the growth of MotoGP over many years,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Group.
“His experience spans every part of our business, and his leadership, vision and passion for the sport make him the right person to help guide MotoGP into its next chapter.”
The appointment comes as MotoGP continues its integration into the broader global sports and entertainment strategy of Liberty Media, which is focused on expanding the championship’s reach and commercial potential.
Derek Chang, CEO of Liberty Media, said the sport has already established a strong global foundation but still has considerable room for growth.
“MotoGP has built a strong global foundation, and we see an enormous opportunity to take the sport to the next level.”
Chang believes Carlos’ detailed understanding of MotoGP makes him well suited to help drive that transformation.
“Carlos has the experience, vision and deep understanding of MotoGP to help lead that transformation.”
Carlos Ezpeleta described his promotion as a major honour and an opportunity to help MotoGP reach an even wider global audience.
“It is a great honour to take on this role at such an exciting moment for MotoGP.”
He also emphasised the importance of working with MotoGP’s global community of fans, teams, riders, manufacturers and commercial partners.
“I look forward to working with Liberty Media and the entire MotoGP community to reach new audiences, create new opportunities and unlock the sport’s full potential.”
That ambition comes at a significant moment for MotoGP, with the championship continuing to evolve both on and off the circuit.
Under the new structure, Carmelo Ezpeleta will continue as CEO of MotoGP Group, while Carlos Ezpeleta will serve as Deputy CEO.
The organisation said the appointment forms part of a wider effort to strengthen its leadership team for the next era of development.
Further additions to the leadership structure are expected to be announced in due course.
