Vietnam U17 National Team head coach, Cristiano Roland, has issued a strong warning ahead of the ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship 2026 final, describing Malaysia U17 national team as a transformed and far more dangerous opponent.
Roland’s remarks come as his side prepares to face Malaysia—coached by Shukor Adan—in a highly anticipated final clash on April 24.
Vietnam had comfortably beaten Malaysia 4-0 earlier in the tournament on April 13, but Roland believes that result now carries little weight.
According to the Vietnamese tactician, Malaysia have evolved significantly in both performance and mentality since that defeat—emerging as one of the tournament’s most in-form sides.
Since then, the young Harimau Malaya have responded with three consecutive victories, including an emphatic 3-0 semi-final win over Laos.
Roland emphasized that Vietnam must reach peak performance levels if they are to reclaim the regional crown.
“We still have one very important match to play. The entire team must maintain high focus and prepare in the best possible way for the final,” said Roland, as reported by TheThao247.
“Malaysia will come into the final with strong mentality and performance. We need to prepare thoroughly and remain objective.”
Vietnam is chasing its first ASEAN U17 title since 2017, when it triumphed under former head coach Vu Hong Viet.
Standing in their way is a resurgent Malaysian side brimming with confidence and momentum—setting the stage for a compelling final showdown between two Southeast Asian rivals.
The title decider will take place at Gelora Delta Stadium, where both teams will battle for regional supremacy in what promises to be a high-intensity encounter.
