Indonesia national team missed out on lifting the FIFA Series 2026 trophy after suffering a narrow 0–1 defeat to the Bulgaria national team at the iconic Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
Coach Herdman made five changes to his starting lineup for the final, introducing several key players from the outset including Justin Hubner, Ragnar Oratmangoen, and Nathan Tjoe-A-On.
Despite the adjustments, Indonesia managed to compete evenly with the European side during the early stages of the match. However, clear attacking opportunities remained limited for the hosts throughout the first half, with striker Ole Romeny and teammates struggling to break down Bulgaria’s organized defense.
The turning point came in the 38th minute when the referee awarded Bulgaria a penalty after a VAR review determined that defender Kevin Diks had fouled Zdravko Dimitrov inside the penalty area.
Stepping up to the spot, Marin Petkov calmly sent goalkeeper Emil Audero the wrong way to give Bulgaria a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
Seeking a response, Herdman introduced Ivar Jenner in the second half, replacing striker Ramadhan Sananta as Indonesia shifted toward a more direct attacking approach.
Additional substitutions—including Elkan Baggott, Dony Tri Pamungkas, and Eliano Reijnders—added fresh energy to the Indonesian attack.
The changes sparked a series of promising chances. Baggott nearly equalized with a powerful header, while Ole Romeny struck the post in a tense moment that had the home crowd holding its breath.
Indonesia’s final opportunity arrived through defender Rizky Ridho, whose left-footed strike also rattled the woodwork late in the match.
Despite a spirited second-half surge and multiple close calls, Indonesia were unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle.
The narrow defeat means Bulgaria lifts the FIFA Series 2026 title, while Indonesia must settle for runner-up honors after an impressive tournament run.
