Malaysia’s top men’s singles badminton player, Lee Zii Jia, has confirmed his withdrawal from the Indian Open (Jan 14-19) and Indonesian Masters (Jan 21-26) due to a lingering ankle injury.
Team LZJ announced that Zii Jia’s recovery from a right ankle ligament injury, sustained during the World Tour Finals last month, remains their top priority. His absence from these two tournaments marks an extended delay in his return to competitive action for the 2025 season.
A statement from Team LZJ clarified the situation:
“Zii Jia’s debut for the 2025 season will be further delayed as he continues to recover from the right ankle ligament injury sustained during the World Tour Finals.
“Team LZJ, with the help of medical experts, will continue to monitor his injury to best prepare for the next available tournament to participate.”
This announcement comes shortly after Zii Jia withdrew from the Malaysian Open, held at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil earlier this month.
The decision to withdraw reflects Zii Jia’s commitment to making a full recovery rather than risking further complications.
