Lee Zii Jia has officially named Yeoh Kay Bin as his new head coach, marking the next phase in the journey of Malaysia’s top professional badminton player. The announcement was made through Team LZJ’s social media platforms earlier today.
“Welcome the new head coach of Team LZJ, Yeoh Kay Bin. Kay Bin, a former Malaysian international player, brings extensive coaching experience at both local and international levels,” read the statement.
The 44-year-old takes over from Wong Tat Meng, whose contract will conclude on December 31, 2024.
Kay Bin boasts an illustrious playing and coaching career. As a player, he reached the final of the 1998 World Junior Championships in Melbourne and won a bronze medal at the 2007 Asian Championships in Johor Bahru. Following his playing career, Kay Bin transitioned into coaching, earning recognition for his expertise in shaping elite talent across various levels of the sport.
This wealth of experience makes him a strong candidate to guide Lee Zii Jia, who continues to compete against the world’s best in badminton.
Yeoh Kay Bin’s appointment comes after a successful stint by Wong Tat Meng, who joined Team LZJ in July 2023. Under Tat Meng’s guidance, Zii Jia achieved significant milestones, including returning to the top 10 in the BWF world rankings and clinching a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Team LZJ expressed gratitude to Tat Meng for his contributions, which helped restore Zii Jia’s confidence and competitive edge on the international stage.
