Safee Sali, a striker Malaysian has announced retirement from their Football career at the age, of 39 today After playing for 19 years in a special press conference at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara Hotel.
According to the former Kuala Lumpur City striker, this decision was not an easy one. But seeing that he could not compete competitively with other players, especially in the attack, retirement was seen as the best move.
“I feel that even though I don’t have a serious injury, I feel that I am no longer able to compete competitively with other players, especially in the attack” Safee said in a press conference.
“I feel like I can move on to the next chapter in life. After this, I can focus on what I want to do, especially the grassroots of our young players,”
“I have plans to open my own soccer academy and soccer field. That is the future plan after this.”
“And the pundit assignment with Astro Arena, I will not leave the football industry immediately. I will continue to give the inputs that I have learned, the experiences that I have and I will share with the football fans of the country to give new knowledge to the community.”
“Not forgetting my fans out there who want to know who is the background, the backbone of my success all this time, I am making a documentary about the fall and rise of one Safee Sali.”
“After this, I have plans to open a YouTube Sports Tarik channel to share. And my experience will not leave the world of sports.”
“My intention is to develop my homeland’s football sport. And all my interest and love for football, I will not leave,”
Safee is well known to national football fans for helping the Harimau Malaya to lift the AFF Suzuki Cup in 2010. In addition, he is the first Malaysian player has played in AFC Cup Final two times with Johor Darul Ta’Zim in 2015 and Kuala Lumpur City in 2022.
