Terengganu FC advanced to semi-final after beating Sabah FC scoring 3-0 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 quarter-final second leg at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
Under the management of Tomislav Steinbruckner, Terengganu FC’s aggressive strategy paid off. The attacking trio of Safawi Rasid, Akhyar Rashid, and Ismaheel Akinade spearheaded the offensive, putting constant pressure on Sabah’s defensive block.
Sabah FC, fielding top players like Rawilson, Daniel Ting, Dominic Tan, Stuart Wilkin, and Jafri Firdaus, aimed to overturn their first-leg deficit.
However, Terengganu FC struck early with Safawi Rasid calmly converting Ismaheel Akinade’s pass in the 10th minute.
Despite Sabah FC’s efforts to control the game, Terengganu FC dominated the first half. Akhyar Rashid added to the lead with a precise finish from Marin Pilj’s through ball in the 43rd minute, sending Terengganu into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw Terengganu FC continuing their pursuit of more goals. Although several attempts did not find the net, Marin Pilj sealed the victory with a superb free-kick goal in the 87th minute.
The final whistle confirmed Terengganu’s 3-0 win, with goals from Safawi Rasid, Akhyar Rashid, and Marin Pilj. This comprehensive performance resulted in a 7-0 aggregate victory, earning Terengganu FC a well-deserved spot in the semi-finals.
