The long-awaited “Judgment Day” from Lausanne has finally arrived, and it’s a mixed bag for the Harimau Malaya stars currently caught in the crosshairs of FIFA’s eligibility laws.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has officially broken its silence, confirming that CAS has delivered its final ruling. While the 12-month ban hasn’t been wiped clean, there is a silver lining that could change the landscape of the players’ immediate futures.
In a significant tweak to the original FIFA sanction, CAS has ruled that the 12-month suspension applies only to official matches.
This is a massive development. Originally, the players were facing a total ban from “all football-related activities,” which would have barred them even from team training or stepping into a club facility. Now, they are allowed to stay fit and train with their teammates—they just can’t cross the white line on game day.
Despite the training reprieve, the “No Play” order is a hammer blow for club managers. The ruling confirms that four high-profile stars are effectively “ghosts” for the 2026 Malaysia League season:
Johor Darul Ta’zim will have to navigate their campaign without the services of Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel.
Kuching City FC will be without their defensive pillar Gabriel Palmero, leaving a massive hole in their tactical setup.
