Marco Bezzecchi has officially put the MotoGP paddock on notice, clinching the top spot on Day 2 of the Buriram Test with a jaw-dropping 1:28.668 minutes.
While the Ducati camp is reportedly “worried” about the Aprilia’s terrifyingly smooth corner speed, “Bez” is keeping his boots firmly on the ground. Despite smashing the timing screens, the Italian was his usual candid self at the media scrum—admitting that while the bike is a rocket, he’s ready to stop testing and start racing!
Bezzecchi didn’t just go fast for one lap; he pulverized the asphalt during a grueling race simulation in the peak Thai heat.
“It was not bad, of course,” Bezzecchi said with a grin. “In testing, the track gets full of rubber and it’s a bit easier to go fast. I’m happy with the job the guys did this winter, but testing is too boring. I’m satisfied, and now finally we start!”
Rumors are swirling that the Ducati Lenovo and Pramac teams are losing sleep over how “smooth” the Aprilia RS-GP26 looks mid-corner—with some describing its handling like a “Minimoto.”
Bezzecchi isn’t letting the hype get to his head. “I don’t feel the same way as them. Everyone is doing a different job, trying different tires. I’m sure they [Ducati] will be there during the race weekend. We are all close.”
However, Bez is focused on fixing his “up and down” form from last year. “My main target is to start better than last season. I want to be more consistent from the beginning. Then, we can change the target to the title.”
While most people would melt at 35°C air temp and 55°C track temp, Bezzecchi chose that exact moment to drop his big race simulation.
“It was not fresh! Phillip Island is more comfortable,” he joked. “But it was the best choice to prepare. Here is super, super tough—maybe worse than Malaysia. It was hot, but it was good.”
Bezzecchi confirmed the bike has made “small steps everywhere,” though he remained tight-lipped on exactly where the secret sauce is hidden. While his teammate Jorge Martin is playing with different “seat aero” configurations, Bez is sticking to what he knows. “I have the same [options], but I don’t feel like him. I’m just happy!”
