A massive power outage sweeping across Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and parts of France is causing widespread disruption — and the crisis has now impacted the ongoing MotoGP testing at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto.
Foreign media outlets have reported that restoration efforts could take more than 10 hours, as authorities scramble to address the extensive technical failure.
The situation at Jerez is particularly critical. The MotoGP paddock, currently in the midst of crucial pre-season testing, has been left without main power. The circuit is operating on emergency backup generators, but the conditions remain far from stable.
Simon Patterson, Tier 1 MotoGP journalist from The-Race.com, provided real-time updates on social media platform X. Patterson confirmed that although there has been no official cancellation of the test sessions, communication is becoming increasingly difficult. Mobile phone signals in the Jerez area have largely collapsed, reportedly due to backup generators at mobile towers running out of fuel.
“The circuit is running entirely on emergency power,” Patterson reported, warning that if the situation persists, further disruption to the MotoGP testing schedule is almost inevitable.
With no clear timeline for the full restoration of services, teams, riders, and organizers are facing growing uncertainty. The MotoGP world now waits anxiously for official updates on whether the critical testing sessions — essential for bike development ahead of the 2025 season — can continue under these challenging conditions.
