Negeri Sembilan FC earned 3 points in their home after beating Sri Pahang FC scoring 2-1 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi.
The match started on a sour note for the home team when an own goal by Aliyu Abu Bakar in the 8th minute gave Sri Pahang an early lead. Attempting to clear a cross from Kpah Sherman, Aliyu inadvertently headed the ball into his own net, shocking the home crowd.
However, Negeri Sembilan responded valiantly. Spearheaded by Takumi Sasaki, Hein Htet Aung, Jacque Faye, and Ikhwan Yazek, the hosts launched a series of attacks. Their persistence paid off just before halftime when Htet Aung equalized in the 44th minute with a well-taken goal, ensuring both teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
The second half saw Negeri Sembilan elevate their game, with head coach K. Nanthakumar introducing fresh tactics. Their efforts bore fruit in the 60th minute when Selvan scored the decisive goal. This marked his fourth goal of the season and solidified his reputation as one of Negeri Sembilan’s key players.
Sri Pahang coach Fandi Ahmad responded swiftly, making three substitutions—Saiful Jamaluddin, Ibrahim Manusi, and Sean Selvaraj—to regain control. Despite their best efforts, Negeri Sembilan’s defense, bolstered by the introduction of South Korean import An Sang-su, held firm under intense pressure.
The match ended 2-1 in favor of Negeri Sembilan, marking their second win over Sri Pahang this season. For Sang Rusa, this victory highlights their resilience and tactical discipline, particularly in difficult conditions.
On the other hand, Sri Pahang will have to regroup quickly as they prepare for their Unifi Malaysia Cup semi-final clash against Sabah at the Likas Stadium on January 18.
