Hector Cuper decided to resign of position head coach of Syria national team after eliminated in FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2.
In the last night, Syria losing to Japan, top flight team of the group B 0-5 at Hiroshima, and eliminated after DPR Korea win Myanmar 4-1 at Vientiane, Laos.
After eliminated, Cuper has decided to resign from the head coach for responsible with the happened.
“I was very happy to work with these players and with all the help I received from the Syrian Football Association. They were very cooperative in everything we asked for as a body technically, but I think that this match was the end of the stage for me,” Cuper said.
“I would like to extend my thanks to those in charge of sports in Syria, as well as to the management of the Football Association because they gave all their energy to help us. Unfortunately, this is football. I thank the players for their effort, and I apologize to the Syrian fans because I hoped to make them happy.”
