A setback has led to the Lion City Sailors FC (Singapore) being disqualified and halted in the group stages. The competitive face-off occurred against Thailand’s formidable Bangkok United at the illustrious Thammasat Stadium.
Reflecting on the challenging match, the Sailors’ esteemed team captain, Hariss Harun, acknowledged the toughness of the game despite having a strategic plan to secure the coveted three points in Thailand. He conveyed, “We had numerous opportunities to score and secure the three points, but luck was not on our side. Nevertheless, we eagerly anticipate the next game.”
Harun shared that the team, while still in good spirits, was somewhat disheartened by the absence of points in today’s match. He expressed optimism about the ongoing participation in the Champions League and Singapore Cup Semi-Final, aiming to conclude both competitions on a high note.
Offering praise to their opponent, Bangkok United, Harun acknowledged their excellence, stating, “Bangkok United is a formidable team, sitting at the pinnacle of their league, the Thailand Premier League, and boasting an unbeaten streak of 14 or 15 games. While we had an opportunity to disrupt their record today, it eluded us. It’s essential to recognize the quality of their team.”
Looking ahead, the Sailors are set to face Kitchee SC (Hong Kong) on their home turf. The captain expressed hopes of securing victory, collecting three crucial points, and maintaining focus in the final match of the ACL’s campaign.
Hariss Harun, who spent seven years as a player with Johor Darul Ta’zim FC before joining Singapore, conveyed his best wishes to his former team, saying, “I wish JDT all the best; I had seven wonderful years there. I still follow and watch their games closely.”
