Selangor FC has lost their assistant coach Conor Nestor, who has decided to leave the Malaysian club to take up a new role as the head coach of Boeung Ket FC, a club in the Cambodia League.
Boeung Ket announced Nestor’s appointment through a video posted on their official social media channels, confirming him as their new head coach.
Nestor joined Selangor FC as assistant to head coach Nidzam Jamil in April 2024, and during his tenure, he played a pivotal role in helping the team reach the FA Cup final this season, while also guiding them to a second-place finish in the Super League. His contribution to the club’s success was widely recognized.
This marks Nestor’s return to Cambodia, where he previously coached PKR Svay Rieng FC from 2018 to 2023. During that time, he gained a reputation for his tactical acumen and leadership in Cambodian football. Reflecting on his departure from Selangor, Nestor expressed mixed emotions about leaving the club but was eager to return to Cambodia.
“It was a tough decision to leave Selangor, but for my career development, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. Since the day I left Cambodia, I’ve missed it deeply. I’m grateful to Boeung Ket FC for allowing me to return,” Nestor said.
As of now, Selangor FC has not announced a replacement for Nestor. With the club competing both domestically and in the AFC Champions League Two, there is an urgent need for top-quality coaching staff to support Nidzam Jamil and maintain the team’s momentum for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
