Malaysia’s world mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei kept their title hopes alive at the China Masters 2025, battling past Hong Kong’s seasoned pair Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet in a tense three-game quarter-final today.
The world No. 3 duo were made to work hard but eventually triumphed 21-12, 12-21, 21-17 in a 60-minute thriller at the Shenzhen Arena.
The victory was all the more impressive given that Toh Ee Wei has been struggling with flu, leaving partner Chen Tang Jie to shoulder much of the workload. Despite the setback, their chemistry and resilience shone through in crucial moments, particularly in the deciding game where they maintained composure to seal the win.
In tomorrow’s semi-finals, Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei will face either world No. 1 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dongping or China’s seventh-ranked Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui.
The Malaysian duo, who etched their names into history by becoming the nation’s first-ever World Champions in mixed doubles, are now on the brink of another milestone. Should they go on to lift the China Masters title, they would become the first Malaysians to ever win this tournament.
Remarkably, Tang Jie-Ee Wei have yet to win a BWF World Tour title this season, as their World Championships triumph does not count towards the series. The China Masters presents a golden opportunity to break that drought ahead of the prestigious World Tour Finals in December.
