A golden era of Malaysian motorcycling has reached its final lap. Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, the man who became a household name across the Asian racing circuit, has officially announced his retirement from active competition at the age of 41.
After a career spanning more than two decades, the veteran rider—known for his clinical precision and grit—is stepping away from the grid, leaving behind a legacy that has inspired a generation of Malaysian speedsters.
Azlan’s journey is one of the most storied in local motorsport. From the grit of the Malaysian Cub Prix to the high-stakes world of the Moto2 World Championship and dominating the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), “Azlan #25” has seen and done it all.
In an emotional farewell, the veteran rider reflected on the sport that defined him:
“After more than 23 years of racing and chasing lap times, I have decided to step away from active racing. Motorsport shaped my life. It taught me discipline, resilience, sacrifice, and humility.” — Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman
While his days of tucking behind a windscreen at 300km/h are over, Azlan isn’t leaving the paddock entirely. The veteran has signaled that his next mission is to ensure the Malaysian flag continues to fly high in international racing by mentoring the stars of tomorrow.
Azlan was quick to credit his “inner circle” for a career that outlasted many of his contemporaries. “My deepest gratitude goes to my family for their unwavering support… to the fans and friends who stood by me through every high and low. Thank you for the memories,” he added.
