América de Cali has officially announced that FIFA has imposed a 12-month suspension on striker Rodrigo Holgado, barring him from all football-related activities.
According to the statement, the sanction will take effect immediately from the date of notification. The Colombian club stressed that both the Football Association of Malaysia and Holgado himself will take the necessary legal steps under FIFA’s Disciplinary Code to appeal the decision and seek a review by the appropriate authorities.
América de Cali’s legal department has pledged to remain in close coordination with the Football Association of Malaysia throughout the process to monitor developments and support the player’s case.
“This decision affects not only the player but also the team’s sporting project, which is why we will exhaust all available avenues to ensure the case is reviewed fairly,” América de Cali stated.
The sanction represents a significant blow for both América de Cali and Holgado, who has been an important figure for the club’s attacking line. The team now faces the challenge of adjusting its strategy as it navigates both domestic and international competitions without one of its key forwards.
