Brazil delivered their most convincing performance of the FIFA World Cup 2026 so far, defeating Scotland 3-0 at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, to secure top spot in Group C and book their place in the Round of 32 with confidence.
Brazil signaled their intentions from the opening whistle, pressing aggressively and denying Scotland any opportunity to settle into the contest.
The breakthrough arrived after just six minutes. Rayan intercepted a misplaced pass from Scott McKenna and released Vinicius Junior, who calmly rounded goalkeeper Angus Gunn before slotting home to give Brazil a deserved lead.
The goal continued Vinicius’ outstanding form under Ancelotti, making him the leading scorer of the Italian coach’s tenure with six international goals.
Scotland struggled to cope with Brazil’s relentless pressure and were largely restricted to long balls and set-piece opportunities as the South Americans dominated possession and territory.
Vinicius thought he had doubled the lead midway through the first half after capitalising on another defensive error, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for a foul in the build-up.
Despite the setback, Brazil continued to create chances through Rayan and Matheus Cunha before eventually extending their advantage.
Moments before halftime, Cunha won possession and combined with Bruno Guimarães, whose precise cross found Vinicius at the far post. The Real Madrid star rose above the Scottish defence and powered a header into the net to make it 2-0.
Scotland attempted to respond after the restart and finally tested Alisson Becker through Scott McTominay, whose header forced an excellent save from the Brazilian goalkeeper.
However, Brazil remained firmly in command. In the 59th minute, Casemiro initiated a slick attacking move before Bruno Guimarães drove into the penalty area and squared the ball to Matheus Cunha, who finished clinically to put the result beyond doubt.
The goal capped another influential performance from the striker, who continues to establish himself as a key figure in Brazil’s attacking setup.
With the match comfortably under control, Ancelotti introduced Neymar in the 75th minute, giving Brazilian fans a moment they had eagerly awaited.
The nation’s all-time leading scorer immediately showcased his quality, producing a perfectly weighted pass that sent Vinicius through on goal. The winger came close to completing his hat-trick, but Scotland managed to deny him a third strike.
Scotland created a late opportunity through McTominay, but the midfielder fired over the bar as Brazil comfortably preserved their clean sheet.
The victory not only secured first place in Group C but also highlighted Brazil’s growing momentum heading into the knockout rounds.
Vinicius Junior once again proved decisive, Matheus Cunha continued his impressive campaign, and Neymar’s return provided an additional boost to an already dangerous squad.
With their attack firing, defence unbeaten on the night, and confidence rising under Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil now head into the Round of 32 looking every bit like genuine contenders for the FIFA World Cup 2026 crown.
The result ensured Brazil finished as group winners and will now face the runner-up of Group F in Houston on June 29.
