The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued an official ruling concerning disciplinary proceedings involving Facundo Garcés, a player of Deportivo Alavés.
According to the decision released on March 5, 2026, the Argentine defender has been handed a 12-month suspension from participating in official matches. However, part of the sanction has already been served during a previous provisional period.
The CAS ruling confirms that the sanction includes the time Garcés had already been suspended between September 25, 2025 and January 26, 2026, during which the player effectively served part of the disciplinary measure.
As a result, the official suspension period continues from March 5, 2026, with the remaining portion of the one-year ban still to be completed before the defender can return to competitive matches.
Despite the ban on official fixtures, the ruling specifies that the punishment only applies to match participation. This means Facundo Garcés is still permitted to train and continue his professional activities with the club throughout the suspension period.
This clause allows the player to remain involved in the team environment and maintain match fitness while awaiting his return to competitive football.
In response to the ruling, Deportivo Alavés confirmed that the club respects the decision issued by the competent authorities.
The Spanish side also stated that it will carefully review the full details of the resolution before determining its next steps regarding the player’s situation.
For now, the club’s focus remains on analyzing the complete ruling while continuing to support the player within the boundaries set by the disciplinary sanction.
