Spanish club Deportivo Alavés has confirmed that Facundo Garcés has been granted provisional clearance to return to football activities after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS/TAS) upheld his request for a precautionary suspension of sanctions imposed by FIFA.
In an official statement, Alavés revealed that CAS approved Garcés’ application within the framework of his ongoing appeal against the disciplinary decision issued by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on 25 September 2025, which was later upheld by the FIFA Appeal Committee on 3 November 2025.
According to the CAS ruling, the 12-month suspension from all football-related activities has been provisionally suspended, allowing the Argentine defender to continue his professional career while awaiting a final verdict on the substance of the appeal.
“As stated in the CAS decision, the sanction of a 12-month suspension from all football-related activities is provisionally suspended,” the club said.
With the precautionary measure in force, Garcés is now eligible to train, compete and fully reintegrate into the first-team setup, without prejudice to the final ruling that CAS will deliver at a later stage.
The development mirrors recent positive legal outcomes involving several Harimau Malaya heritage players and represents another key step in the wider appeals process surrounding FIFA’s earlier disciplinary action.
For Deportivo Alavés, the decision brings timely relief as Garcés prepares to rejoin the squad, while for the player himself, it offers a crucial opportunity to maintain match fitness and momentum as the legal proceedings continue.
