Johor Darul Ta’Zim (continued their imperious Malaysia Cup march after sealing a dominant 11-1 aggregate victory over PDRM FC to book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 Piala Malaysia, following the Round of 16 second-leg clash at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim, Iskandar Puteri.
Despite ending the first half goalless, the Southern Tigers were never truly threatened as their overwhelming first-leg advantage allowed them to control proceedings with authority in front of thousands of home supporters.
JDT head coach fielded Christian Abad between the posts, with Corbin Ong donning the captain’s armband, while Brazilian playmaker Marcos Guilherme spearheaded the attacking unit.
PDRM, meanwhile, entrusted Hakeem Hamidun in goal, with Elisha Oluwasegun tasked to lead their frontline.
From the opening whistle, Harimau Selatan asserted their dominance, carving out a series of dangerous chances through Marcos Guilherme and Teto Martin, pinning PDRM deep in their own half for long spells.
Marcos came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute, but his fierce strike was superbly parried by Hakeem. Nazmi Faiz also tested his luck late in the first half, only to see his effort drift off target as the teams went into the break scoreless.
The hosts emerged after halftime with renewed intensity, and their persistence finally paid off in the 66th minute, when Teto Martin capped off another impressive display by firing home the opening goal of the match — stretching JDT’s aggregate advantage to a staggering 10 goals.
JDT continued to dominate possession and territory, creating a flurry of clear-cut opportunities through Jairo da Silva and Jonathan Silva, keeping PDRM constantly on the back foot.
Jairo nearly doubled the tally late on with a powerful header, but Hakeem Hamidun once again stood firm to deny further damage.
The final whistle confirmed an 11-1 aggregate triumph for JDT, underlining their status as overwhelming title contenders as they march confidently into the last eight.
Up next, the Southern Tigers will face Melaka FC in the quarter-finals, after the latter secured their progression earlier this week by eliminating Sabah, setting the stage for an intriguing knockout encounter in the Piala Malaysia 2025/26.
