Perak FC will not be participating in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 next season after club chairman Datuk Seri Azim Zabidi confirmed that the team did not submit an application for a national license.
In an exclusive interview with Astro Arena’s Zulhelmi Zainal Azam, Azim revealed that no documentation was submitted to the Malaysian Football League (MFL) by the deadline last Saturday, officially ruling Perak out of next season’s top-flight competition.
The uncertainty surrounding Perak’s status had caused confusion among fans, especially after the MFL had earlier announced that all Super League teams had submitted licensing applications. However, Azim clarified today that The Bos Gaurus are forced to withdraw due to ongoing financial turmoil.
“To my knowledge, Perak will not be playing in the Super League next season. We didn’t submit any documents,” Azim said.
“The licensing documents require proof of financial stability and no salary arrears. Unfortunately, we don’t meet those criteria.”
When asked about the MFL’s statement, Azim suggested it may have referred to the teams that will actually compete next season, implicitly confirming Perak’s absence.
“Perhaps they meant all the teams who will be playing next season have applied. We are not one of them,” he added.
Perak FC’s financial crisis has been an open secret, with mounting debts and salary payment issues plaguing the club over the past year. Despite efforts to stabilize their operations, the club’s inability to meet licensing requirements has left them with no choice but to withdraw.
This marks a significant blow to Malaysian football, as Perak — one of the country’s most storied clubs — faces an uncertain future outside the nation’s top-tier league.
