Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that the country’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, will be separated for upcoming tournaments.
This decision comes after a thorough review by BAM’s Performance Committee, following recommendations from national mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto and the Director of Coaching at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM), Rexy Mainaky.
Acting BAM President, Datuk V. Subramaniam, explained that the move was made after a detailed evaluation of the pair’s recent performances and future potential.
“Following the decision taken at the recent Performance Committee meeting, and based on guidance from our coaching panel, the status of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei has been determined. We have received the final report and recommendations from Nova and Rexy, and the decision is to separate the pair for upcoming tournaments. We have agreed to give the coaches time to explore new combinations,” he said.
While BAM has not officially announced the new pairings, this move indicates a strategic restructuring in Malaysia’s mixed doubles division. The goal is to identify stronger and more compatible combinations that can enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The decision to split Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei marks a significant shift, considering their status as the nation’s top-ranked mixed doubles pair. However, BAM remains committed to optimizing its player lineup to achieve greater success in upcoming tournaments, including key events in the BWF World Tour and Olympic qualification pathways.
