Juan Torres Garrido, head coach of Malaysia U19 national team admitted that there is no pressure for his team to defend the ASEAN U19 Championship 2024 title.
Malaysia U19 is the defending champions after clinched the title in 2022 after beating Laos in the final round.
Garrido also confirmed that the national youth squad will undergo two warm-up matches against the Cambodian U19 squad next Wednesday and Saturday with a total of 23 final players to be listed by Garrido before the team leaves for Surabaya next Monday.
“We are preparing the team not only for this tournament, but this is a new generation and we have high hopes for them.”
“We will try to compete from the start and hopefully this generation will be successful then the existing players will have to show their ability if they are good enough.”
The tournament will take place from 17 to 29 July in Indonesia, the main focus of him and his line of coaches at the moment is to ensure that every player can understand and follow all the rules set to face the competition in Group C which is lined up with Brunei, Singapore and Thailand.
