Selangor FC were left frustrated after conceding a stoppage-time equalizer against Buriram United, as their Shopee Cup 2025/26 encounter ended 1-1 in a dramatic contest.
From the opening whistle, Selangor showed attacking intent, pushing Buriram deep into their own half. The Red Giants nearly found the breakthrough in the 25th minute when Chrigor Moraes unleashed a powerful long-range strike, only for the ball to drift narrowly wide.
Their persistence paid off in the 38th minute. Nooa Laine threaded a precise through ball into the path of Chrigor, who finished calmly at the far post to put Selangor 1-0 ahead. Despite creating further chances, the Malaysian side were unable to extend their lead before the break.
Buriram responded strongly in the second half, introducing Suphanat Muenta and Austrian forward Robert Zulj to bolster their attack. The Thai champions came agonizingly close to equalizing in the 68th minute when Robert Zulj’s effort cannoned off the post before being cleared by Selangor’s defense.
The pressure continued, with Suphanat and Peter Zulj both denied brilliantly by Selangor goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz in the 78th minute. Buriram thought they had a lifeline late on when appeals for a handball in the box were checked by VAR, but the referee waved play on in the 88th minute.
Just as Selangor looked set to claim a famous victory, Buriram struck deep into stoppage time. In the 90+4th minute, Peter Zulj rose highest from a corner to power a header into the far post, snatching a dramatic equalizer to make it 1-1.
Neither side could find a decisive goal in the dying moments, leaving both teams to share the spoils in a pulsating encounter.
