Shopee Cup: Persib Bandung Dramatic Comeback victory over Port FC
Persib Bandung opened their ASEAN Club Championship 2026/2027 campaign with a masterpiece in late drama, coming from behind to stun Thai powerhouse Port FC 3-1 at Thammasat Stadium, Pathum Thani.
Port FC dominated the opening period on home turf, pressing high and racking up nine attempts in the first 45 minutes. Persib goalkeeper Teja Paku Alam produced three critical saves to keep the hosts at bay.
Persib contentedly absorbed the pressure and looked to strike on the break. Igor Tolic’s men carved out three shots on target from six counter-attacking attempts in the first half, though neither side could find the decisive touch before the interval.
The second half began as a tense, tactical battle, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances in the opening ten minutes.
The deadlock finally broke in the 66th minute when Port FC were awarded a penalty following a tackle inside the box. Jude Soonsup-Bell stepped up and calmly sent the keeper the wrong way, giving the Thai side a deserved 1-0 lead.
Refusing to yield, Pangeran Biru poured forward in search of an equalizer—and their persistence paid off late in the match.
Mariano Peralta ignited the comeback, slipping past Port FC’s backline inside the box to turn in a precise low finish.
With Port FC reeling, Persib struck on a lightning-fast counter-attack. Luka Menalo whipped in a magnificent cross from the flank, finding Berguinho, who smashed home to make it 2-1.
Menalo capped off a masterclass performance by turning scorer, slotting home a pass from Peralta to seal an unforgettable 3-1 victory in the final seconds.
The win propels Persib Bandung to the top tier of Group B, establishing early momentum for Igor Tolic's side in their continental journey.
