Buriram United and BG Pathum United battled to an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Shopee Cup 2025/26 Group Stage, Group A at Pathum Thani Stadium, Pathum Thani.
Buriram, the defending champions, came into the game with just one point and welcomed back head coach Osmar Loss Vieira from suspension. BG Pathum, meanwhile, were looking to build on their opening win and solidify their place near the top of the group standings.
The match burst into life early. In the 20th minute, Sasalak Haiprakhon finished off a clever move involving Filip Stojkovic and Goran Causic to give Buriram a 1-0 lead.
But BG Pathum responded just three minutes later when Chanathip Songkrasin’s shot took a deflection and sneaked past Chatchai Bootprom to make it 1-1.
Buriram went back in front in the 35th minute after Gilherme Bissoli converted a penalty awarded for handball by Chanathip.
However, in stoppage time of the first half, BG captain Surachart Sareepim pounced on a defensive mix-up to slot home the equaliser, sending the teams into the break tied at 2-2.
The second half saw chances at both ends. Buriram threatened through Bissoli and Juan Fernandez Blanco, while BG Pathum’s Chatchamongkol Thongkiri and Kritsada Kaman tested the visitors’ defence.
Both goalkeepers – Chatchai for Buriram and Slavisa Bogdanovic for BG – were kept busy as the match reached its final stages, but neither side could find the decisive goal.
In the dying minutes, Suphanat Mueanta almost stole it for Buriram, but Bogdanovic stood tall to preserve the draw.
The result leaves Buriram United on 2 points from 2 matches, while BG Pathum United move to 4 points from 2 matches, keeping them in second place in Group A.
Buriram United will now look to secure their first win of the tournament in their next outing, while BG Pathum aim to maintain momentum in pursuit of a knockout stage berth.
