Toprak Razgatlıoğlu to Miss Rest of 2026 After Shoulder Surgery
Prima Pramac Yamaha Rider Needs an Operation on October 26 to Repair the Injury From His Mandalika Highside; Team Director Gino Borsoi Says “His Health Must Come First”
Toprak Razgatlıoğlu will miss the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island and the rest of the 2026 MotoGP season. Further medical examinations in Milan showed that the shoulder injury he suffered in a highside crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix in Mandalika needs surgery. Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez is planned to replace him in the remaining races.
Razgatlioglu travelled to Milan for further assessments. Those examinations confirmed that the damage requires surgical treatment to give him the best chance of recovery. In agreement with the rider, the operation is booked for Monday, October 26, in Milan. After the procedure the Turkish rider will focus on rehabilitation.
Fernandez is planned to step in for the upcoming races. As Yamaha’s test rider he already knows the YZR-M1. He has also scored six points in the standings this season. Yamaha and Prima Pramac Yamaha thanked him for stepping in.
Prima Pramac Yamaha team director Gino Borsoi said the team was sorry for Razgatlioglu. “We know how much he wanted to race at Phillip Island and continue his journey with the YZR-M1. He has been working hard to adapt to MotoGP, and it is disappointing that this injury will prevent him from continuing that process over the coming races. However, his health must come first,” he said.
Borsoi welcomed Fernandez. “As Yamaha’s test rider, he knows the bike well, and we are pleased to have him joining the team for these events. We will work together to make the most of this opportunity.”
Razgatlioglu said missing Phillip Island was hard. “Phillip Island is one of my favourite circuits and a place where I’ve enjoyed some very special moments during my Superbike career. I was excited about the opportunity to race here on the MotoGP bike, which makes this situation even harder to accept.”
He said the injury turned out worse than first thought. “After further medical assessments following the crash in Mandalika, it became clear that my shoulder injury is worse than we first believed. As a result, I will undergo surgery in the coming days to give myself the best chance of making a full recovery and returning at 100%. This wasn’t an easy decision, but after consulting with the doctors and the people closest to me, we are convinced it is the right step for my future.”
He also wished his teammate well. “I would also like to wish Jack all the best for his home Grand Prix. Racing in front of your home crowd is always special, and with this being the final MotoGP event at Phillip Island, I hope he can enjoy a fantastic weekend and achieve a great result. I’ll be cheering for him and the entire team from afar.”
Razgatlioglu came to MotoGP from Superbikes and had scored 18 points in his debut season, with a best Sprint finish of 17th at Motegi after a difficult adaptation to the Yamaha.
