Honda confirmed 2027 Line-up: Moreira promoted HRC, Alonso to LCR
Brazilian steps up to partner Quartararo in the factory team, while Colombian rookie David Alonso joins Pro Honda LCR to complete the grid
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has confirmed its full MotoGP line-up for 2027. Diogo Moreira will be promoted from LCR Honda to the Honda HRC Castrol factory team on a multi-year contract. At the same time, Colombian David Alonso will join Pro Honda LCR in his first premier-class season.
Moreira, a 22-year-old Brazilian, will partner Fabio Quartararo as MotoGP moves to new technical regulations. Quartararo is moving from Yamaha on a two-year deal covering 2027 and 2028, and the new era brings 850cc bikes. HRC’s aim is to get Honda back to the top of the championship standings.
Moreira’s rise to the factory team has been quick. He joined the world championship in 2022 and has taken five wins, 13 podiums and nine pole positions in the lightweight and middleweight classes. He won the 2025 Moto2 world title in only his fourth season, after taking his first Moto2 victory at Assen and fighting back through the standings.
His rookie MotoGP season with LCR has confirmed HRC’s faith in him. Moreira built up his understanding of the Honda RC213V step by step, and had a breakout weekend at the Catalan Grand Prix, where he recorded his first top-ten finish. He has since regularly battled for top Honda honours, and took a debut Sprint podium at HRC’s home race in Motegi.
He will be the first Brazilian in the factory Honda squad since Alex Barros, who took four podiums on the RC211V in 2004. “It is a fantastic feeling to arrive to the factory Honda HRC team,” Moreira said, and he thanked LCR for helping his adaptation.
Alonso, the 2024 Moto3 world champion, has 32 podiums, including 20 wins, in four seasons in the championship. Honda signed him on a multi-year deal in July, but had not said which team he would join until now.
HRC’s Yuzura Ishikawa said the line-up across Honda HRC Castrol and LCR is highly competitive. He added that he expects the riders to push each other and to help HRC’s engineers build the best bike possible in the new era.
