Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia has launched immediate repair efforts following extensive damage from a DANA storm that battered the region on Tuesday, October 29.
Though a preliminary inspection confirmed the track itself remains in good condition, severe flooding has devastated much of the access and parking infrastructure, necessitating urgent repairs ahead of the Motul Grand Prix of the Valencian Community from November 15 to 17.
The storm delivered over 200 liters of rain per square meter in under 12 hours, bringing torrents of water, mud, and debris from the nearby Sechera and Poyo ravines. This surge impacted car parks and the main access points to the Cheste facility, leaving essential infrastructure in need of immediate restoration to host the highly anticipated final round of the world motorcycle championship.
Nearly a hundred individuals, including staff from Formula E logistics and various contractors, were stranded at the circuit overnight. With the gym, offices, and other spaces offering refuge, the team prioritized safety while enduring challenging conditions. “The most important thing is that all the people who were at the Circuit are fine; everyone has been able to spend the night safely at the Circuit facilities,” said Nicolás Collado, the Circuit’s general manager.
The Ricardo Tormo Circuit has now initiated a comprehensive damage assessment to evaluate the storm’s impact on hosting upcoming events. “Now, a damage assessment process begins that will tell us to what extent this DANA will affect the holding of our next events with full guarantees,” Collado explained.
